Willie at the highest point of the trek

Willie at the highest point of the trek

I was looking forward to going to Nepal but I wasn’t looking forward to the long journey. When I got to Nepal it was all worth it.

Seeing the poverty made me realise how much I have got and how little they have got and the Nepalese just get on with life every day. I visited a school in Kathmandu and met the teachers and spoke to the kids there. I learned it takes 75 pence a month to send one young person to school and that pays for their school fees per month. I am hoping to set up a charity in the near future to help the nursery kids to go through school. If anybody is interested in helping in any way please contact me, Willie Ryan, Sharron McAllister or Lynne Williamson to discuss our plans and we will keep you up to date (via the blog). Any advice is welcome!

It was upsetting to know that the first school we visited did not have clean water in their school but it was good to know when we left that Who Cares? Scotland had pledged to put in a water supply for them in future. I hope I can be involved in helping to fit the water system. I would like to go back to Nepal and help to fit the water system with clean running water.

Some of the sights we saw were absolutely fantastic when we were trekking in the Himalayan Mountains. Getting to the very highest point of the trek was fantastic. It was good that all the group completed the challenge. It was one of the best laughs I have had with a group and probably one of the best experiences of my life. I would gladly go back tomorrow. I would like to thank Grant and Jeff and the staff who put me forward to go on this trek. I would also  like to thank the staff who volunteered to come with me.

A big thank you to all the group for making it all a good laugh. I LOVE YOU!

Hi Willie – brilliant stuff – I love it!! I’ve had lots of requests to go to different groups to talk about the trip. Hope you are still up for coming along with me? I’ve got a load of pictures that you took on my camera – I will get some to you

Wullie, what a great young man you are!! I think we all love you!! I loved spending time with you and I recognised quite quickly how much you care about others.

I know it has been hard for you adjusting back to life here when you have had such a powerful experience. We just need to get going with the nursery project and the school toilets and make concrete plans for you to know that you can continue to make a difference to others as well as yourself.

    Take Care

    Sharron x

Hey Willie it was great to read your blog. I really miss hearing you shouting out ‘I love you’ every day.. I’ve found it really hard getting back into life in Scotland too since coming back but like you I’m looking forward to doing more. There’s already lots of talk around Who Cares? about how to take things forward – I don’t think it will be long till some of these plans start moving. Hope to see you soon, my names down to help out with future projects so hopefully it won’t be too long till we catch up again.. Kirsten x
