Interview with Gemma (Trek 2)

GemmaWhat was the journey to Nepal and back like? Were there any difficulties? Really tiring- I’m not used to travelling, that was the part I least enjoyed

What was the high point of the trip, any special moments? I liked everything. I loved going to the schools, I liked meeting all the wee kids. The school was totally different from here, lots of poverty- it made me sad, but also happy that I had got to meet them

Have you met any new friends by going on the trip? Yes I did; Leona, Luke, Nicola I could go on- loads more. I still keep in touch with them, I was talking to one of them just there

What was the low point of the trip? I didn’t like leaving everyone, it was so sad

Were there any embarrassing or funny moments you would like to tell us about? I fell down the toilet ! The toilet was a tent with a hole in the ground. I had turned my head torch off and fell down the hole, I had cream trousers on and I had to clean my boots- it was horrible

What were the local people like in Nepal? Really welcoming; when you walked through their towns they were all smiling at you

Would you do the trip all over again if you had the chance? Yes, definitely

What are your thoughts now you are back? I think everyone that went there the experience has changed them a bit- because you still think about the things the people there haven’t got, it makes you appreciate what you have here. I was talking to a wee boy called Nissan in a school over there and his education was really important to him. It made me think about my school here and how I should try harder

Hi Gemma- great you could submit a blog already. Pleased you’re keeping in touch with some of the others. Your positive attitude on the trek kept us all going.

    Take care.

Gemma: What a star! You only put a foot wrong once on the trek – but, as you described, with horrible consequences! Hope to see you soon – once you’ve cleaned your shoes.

Hello Gemma – great to hear about your trek. Its amazing how we all remember the toilets…

Like you, I was really moved by the experience of meeting the kids in the schools. But hopefully we can all do our bit to help make things better.

Great interview Gemma, you summed up how we all felt. Don’t worry about the toilet incident, mine was much more embarrassing than yours! See you soon – take care & keep working hard in the meantime!! x

Hi there Gemma, you’re a great girl, I really admired your “stickability” even encouraging some of us over 21s at times when we needed encouraging. I also thought that it was great the way some of our young male group members were sooo keen to help you with sooo many things. What great guys!!

Oh yeah, by the way, thanks for not saying who it was that was in the toilet tent before you.

    All the best

Hi Gemma, I enjoyed reading your comments. Looks like a few of us shared in the embarassing toilet moments (thank goodness I thought it was just me) We seemed to keep these experiences fairly quiet during the trek. Are you wading your way through the dozens of Dvd and Cd’s you bought? Between you and leona you must have bought enough to start up a rental business together. Barbara.X

Hiya Gemma, I was on the first trip but it was great to read your interview with Denny and I think I can actually smell those toilets right now after reading the story of what happened to you – it’s all coming flooding back to me… Although I’m curious to find out what happened to others cause there’s a couple of embarrassing toilet moments mentioned above??? ;o)
